Librarian, Chemainus Secondary School This is a "photo-shopped" photo of me made by some of the students at my school, Chemainus Secondary . The original photo came from Google Images, and I had used it in a video for one of my courses. I had the original on my desktop, and with the help of the technology teacher, they created a personal version for me, which is now my desktop image.
The image really encapsulates how the kids and I feel about our Library. We may be a small school of 382 students, but we have almost 9000 books. Since I took over, I have recycled at least 2500 books, and have applied for and received grants of more than $5000.00. We have an awesome FIC section (including 75 audio books) that is well used, and the goals for the future are to increase the use of the NON FIC section, create a vibrant Library Web Page, and develop our digital resources. It would be great to have more time in the library, currently .33 of my day, but this is not going to be an easy goal to meet, since we are projected to be down 100 more students in the next five years. As a staff, we are going to have to look closely at how we deliver our services and meet the needs of our students. Some of us believe that our declining enrolment will ensure that we transition to 21Century learning well before many other schools.
